Winter is my absolute favorite season to dress up for and now I get to shop for some real winter clothes this year. Here are a few of my favorite clothing and accessory trends and where to buy them. (Click the titles to go find where to buy these items).
Faux Fur Coat
So far I have bought 3 faux fur coats… I know, I don’t need three but I just love them so much. I got my coats from Nordstrom Rack, Marshall’s, and Boohoo all for under $70. They are perfect for a fancy night out or to simply dress up an outfit. And fur coats just make you feel automatically confident!
Newsboy hats have become my favorite new accessory. They are stylish and will keep you warm during the winter. They are perfect for that bad hair day or one of those days when you want to dress up but don’t feel like putting on makeup. These hats are an effortless way to be trendy and this hat was ONLY $8.99 on Amazon…
I have become obsessed with patterned pants thanks to one of my super stylish suitemates (Love you, Britt). The pants that I bought were under $20 at Forever 21 and they have a huge collection of pants. The pants below are only $16 (linked above). These pants are versatile for all weather types. For warmer weather pair them with a crop top and for colder weather pair them with a cute sweater. I personally love wearing these pants with my cropped turtleneck sweater.
Steve Madden is my absolute favorite shoe store. I have never been much of a combat boot girl but I fell in love with these boots. These boots are amazing for the winter but also can be worn during warmer weather too. They look cute with jeans but I also love wearing them with casual skirts and dresses too. These are also only $60 (over 50% off) right now!!
This impulse buy was one of the greatest decisions of my life. For only $30 at Express I got this hooded cardigan that feels like I’m basically wearing a blanket. I will wear this cardigan with leggings and a basic tee for a more casual outfit or I will also dress it up with jeans and a cute top. It is my new favorite lazy-day sweater and so cozy in this chilly weather.
My everyday jewelry now consists of gold hoops. They can complete almost any outfit and work with so many hairstyles. I got my hoops for $1.50 at Primark, but they are available at many other stores for cheap. Hoops are perfect for casual everyday wear and for going out.
I have never been one to wear sweatpants but now I have fallen in love with my Adidas track pants. I have a wide-leg and jogger pair of pants. They are perfect for that “athletic-chic” look. I love wearing my pants with cropped hoodies (there are tons of cute ones at Brandy Melville and Forever 21) and my favorite athletic shoes. These pants can be found at urban outfitters, Macy’s, or athletic stores.
Loafers have become a part of my everyday outfits. They instantly dress up an outfit and are perfect to throw on when you are rushing out the door. There are many inexpensive versions of this show but I would recommend investing money in a good pair of loafers. I have a pair of Steve Madden loafers that I am in love with and they are so durable.
One year ago, I took a leap of faith and made one of my crazy dreams a reality. When I first decided to start a blog, I literally had no idea what I was getting myself into. First of all, I had no idea how to make a website, and I had to figure out how to design a website from scratch (which took forever). Planning out photo shoots and blogs took way more effort than I thought. I thought having a blog meant taking some pictures and writing a couple paragraphs about it, but wow, I was so wrong. When I was starting off taking pictures I had no idea how to pose whatsoever but I have had photographers who have graciously taught me what to do. For content, I had no idea how to get sponsors, so I spent hours contacting many myself, with some eventual success. I definitely never expected a blog to be this much work but through all of my struggles and times of trial and error, I have found my true passion.
From a young age, I have always been a little fashionista. Well, at least I thought I was, some of those outfits are very questionable. I have always loved fashion and now I have a way to express it. I love that I have the opportunity to share my love of fashion with you all and that I can divulge a few of my secrets along the way too. I can’t put into words how thankful I am for all the love and support I have gotten and all the opportunities I have been given because I stepped outside of my comfort zone. I would not have been able to pursue my dream without all the amazing friends and family that I have around me, and I am so thankful for their love and support. I encourage anyone who is debating whether they should pursue a dream of theirs to take a leap of faith and go for it. If you really believe in your dream and you put in the effort, your dream can become a reality.
A year ago I would have never imagined that I would be in this position. This year has been a huge transition for me, as I’ve moved 2,000 miles away from Austin to Boston. I am in love with the city of Boston. I love being a “city girl” and getting to make this new city my own. But Austin will always be home and I am so happy that I get to come back to such a great city. Thank you for following me on this journey, and thank you for your patience as I continue to figure out this whole blog thing. I have some very exciting projects and blog posts coming up that I think you will enjoy! Here’s to many more years and many more posts! I can’t thank you enough for all of your support! Thank you, thank you, thank you! xoxo Elise
Never in a million years would I have guessed that it would snow in Austin before it snowed in Boston! Before today, I had seen snow in Colorado or when we had “snow days” back in Texas but I was NOT prepared for snow like this. I woke up this morning and immediately went to my window to see the snow flurries. Little did I know that it wouldn’t stay that way all day. Now everything here is completely covered in snow! Of course, my other fellow southern friend and I went to go take pictures of our first real snow experience, but we were not dressed properly at all.
I still have no idea how to dress for this weather but thank God I have my roommate. I’m glad that my suffering in the cold is at least entertaining to someone. She has taught me some tips and tricks on how to endure the weather and now I have some hope. This will definitely be an adventure, but at least I have other people who are in the same boat as me. Even though it’s freezing out, I have always wanted a white Christmas and well, I definitely got my wish.
As a fashion blogger, one of the best accessories I can have is a smile. With my nonstop busy schedule, it’s hard for me to even time to update my blog sometimes. Teeth whitening has always been something that I try to incorporate into my weekly routine, but lately, it has been challenging to find time with my crazy college schedule, soccer practice, and blogging. What drew me to using Smile Brilliant was how easily accessible it is at any time of the day. Whether I’m doing my homework or getting ready for a photo shoot, I can always quickly pop in my teeth whitening tray and whiten my teeth.
I have used whitening strips and whitening gel from my dentist, but they have never been as effective as Smile Brilliant. The Smile Brilliant team ensured that I got the best service possible. They send you a kit to make sure you have the perfect impressions for your whitening trays and they send back to you in no time. Also, when using other whitening strips or gel, my teeth would become very sensitive. With Smile Brilliant, my teeth never became sensitive because they include sensitivity gel to use after whitening your teeth. I have been amazed my results and so satisfied with this product. Here is a quick picture of my teeth before and after using Smile Brilliant:

After living in Boston for almost three months, I still consider myself a professional tourist. Professional tourist, what’s that you may say? Well, since I am still new to Boston I wouldn’t consider myself a Bostonian, but I am also just not a vistor anymore. Therefore, I just consider myself a professional tourist now. Through these few months of having my own time to explore and having visitors come to town, I have come up with a list of my favorite places to visit in Boston.
New England Aquarium
Going to the New England aquarium proved to me that you are never too old for an aquarium. I recently went to the aquarium when my family was visiting and I’m not going to lie I was way more excited than my fourteen-year-old sister. Not only were there great exhibits, such as penguins and seals, but they also had…
Sleeping Beauty: How to Cut Your Morning Routine in Half
By: Elise Sanchez
8 a.m.s…you never want to wake up for them and you always want to wear your pajamas to class. But sometimes you have those days where you actually do need to look presentable. Maybe you have a presentation or a meeting, or just one of those days you can’t wear leggings. Here are a few tips to cut your morning routine in half.
Pick your outfit out the night before (and actually try it on)– You would be amazed at how much time you can save by simply picking out your outfit the night before. After you think you have the right outfit, try it on. You may wake up in the morning and try your outfit and absolutely hate it. So save yourself some time and stress and make sure you actually like your outfit…
When I say “I met Olivia Culpo” I still have trouble comprehending that it actually happened. If you know me, you know that I am a huge Olivia Culpo fan. Actually, a huge fan is an understatement, Olivia Culpo is basically my idol. When I discovered she would be at the Boston Film Festival at a theater only a 3-minute walk from my school, I bought tickets as fast as I could. I thought this could actually be my opportunity to meet her, even though there was still a chance I wouldn’t. Rushing to the theater only 3 minutes before showtime, my friend and I waited in a line that reached all the way to the concessions of people waiting to see the movie premiere. Little did we know how big this premiere was going to be. There were photographers and videographers recording the whole event. I’ll be completely honest, I had no idea what the movie was about nor did I know any of the main actors. I just went hoping to see Olivia and didn’t do any background research on the movie. We took our seats in the theater and still no sight of Olivia. As the movie started, the main actors started trickling into the seats behind us. Even though we had no idea who they were, it was still pretty cool to see a movie with the actors and director behind you.
About 15 minutes into the movie my friend nudges me to the look to the right and I see someone in a sparkly black jumpsuit sneaking into the theater. Trying to stay calm, I try to focus on the movie and refrain from going up to talk to her. Actually, my friend did try to get me to go up to her and introduce myself but I didn’t want to seem too “stalker-ish”. As the movie went on, it became harder for me to focus on the movie when my idol was 3 rows behind me. I was trying to think of ways to meet her without being a creepy fan that she is probably used to encountering. So I did the most logical thing I could do in the moment, follow her into the bathroom. Not creepy at all, right? After washing my hands and touching up my makeup, I waited to “run into” Olivia. She finally comes out and after waiting a few moments to not bombard her, I turn to her and say “Aren’t you Olivia Culpo?” (as if I didn’t know already). She looked up and smiled at me and said yes she was, so I went up to her and shook my hand and said, “Hi I’m Elise Sanchez and I am a fashion blogger and you actually liked a few of my pictures last week of me wearing some of your clothes.” She replied, “Oh no way, really? What clothes were you wearing of mine?” I went on to explain how I was wearing her line with Le Tote and then I further introduced myself and told her I go to Emerson College down the road and that one day I aspire to be like her one day. She replied back to me, “Thank you, you are so sweet. Thank you for coming to the premiere today.” Still starstruck, I shakily asked Olivia if we can take a picture. She said yes and looked at the time on my phone and said, “It’s only 10:30, wow I thought it was like 1 am. I am exhausted and I have Danny’s jacket on” the rest of what she said I don’t particularly remember, I was just so caught up in the fact that she was talking to me as if she was my friend. She even mentioned her boyfriend, New England Patriot’s player Danny Amendola. Attempting to take selfies, I was too shaky and wanted a better picture, so I asked if we could possibly take a real picture so she suggested that her friend could take a picture of us. After taking multiple pictures, I thanked her and her friend and made small talk with them as we entered the theater. Not only did I meet my idol, I actually had a conversation with her. I couldn’t have been happier in that moment. I sat back down in my seat and thanked my friend for encouraging me to go meet her because if it wasn’t for her I might have chickened out. After meeting her in person and looking at the pictures of us, I honestly did not think it was possible for her to be prettier in person but she was. Olivia was everything I thought she would be and more. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to meet her and still can’t wrap my mind around all that happened. I look up to my idols as inspiration for what I want to accomplish, and meeting Olivia Culpo and seeing how nice and genuine she makes me want to work harder to be that for someone else.
Two weeks into school, and it’s officially safe to say that I love Boston. Living in the city has always been a dream of mine, and the fact that I am living in the center of downtown Boston is surreal. I step outside my dorm and I’m in the Boston Common, I walk ten minutes and I’m in one of the best shopping districts in Boston. While it has been different not having a car, I’ve grown to enjoy walking everywhere. It’s now normal for me to walk six plus miles a day.
Aside from me learning how to navigate the T, the funniest part of Boston has been hearing people talk about “the heat”, which is a meager 80 degrees. But then again, I get laughed at when I explain how in Texas our “snow days” are when we have a few icicles on our houses and some ice on the roads. My few southern friends and I are actively preparing ourselves mentally for an actual winter. I suppose that surviving the snow after mastering the city will have to be my new adventure.
While Boston has been unbelievably amazing, it’s still not home. I’m reminded of this when I say “y’all” and then there is an almost immediate reaction from the company around me. For the first time in a long time, I now have to think twice about what I’m about to say for fear anything remotely southern slips out. People definitely have gotten a kick out of trying to imitate “Texas Elise” through the use of a thick southern accent (which I don’t have). I didn’t even think I had an accent of any sort until I met people with heavy accents from Boston, New Jersey, Michigan, and many other places. Being in Boston also makes me appreciate the Mexican food back home so much more. I am going straight to Chuy’s when I land in Austin to finally have creamy jalapeno sauce and queso again.
Besides the lack of Mexican food and usage of “y’all”, I am beyond happy here. Stayed tuned for the next adventures as I complete my transition from Austin to Boston.
After staying up till 3 am to pack at the last-minute (definitely don’t recommend this), then proceeding to wake up at 4:30 to go to the airport, I am now on my way to LA to start my journey from Austin to Boston. Lots and lots of tears have been shed this week as it’s finally hit me that I am moving 2,000 miles away from home. Before it was just a dream of mine to go to college in a big city, but now my fantasies are becoming realities. Despite being so far from everything I’ve ever known in Austin, I am so excited to start this new journey of my life in a brand new city. I’m even looking forward to the cold, even though, admittedly, I have no idea how to handle cold weather. Even after being asked the question “are you sure you want to live in the cold?” millions of times, I still reply “I think of it as an opportunity to get a new wardrobe!” every time. If I can survive sweltering, 100-degree weather, then I can survive the cold.
Overall, I am incredibly blessed to be going to school at Emerson. I am so very thankful and overwhelmed from all the love and support I have gotten from everyone. Thank you for all the kind words and tips on how to survive cold weather and this new journey, and I can’t wait to share my many adventures and experiences with y’all!
